A Classy Bohemian Back Yard Wedding | Calvert City, Kentucky

This past Saturday was a wet one and yet I’m thrilled with how the images are turning out! Much like Taylor & Logan’s May wedding!

The day started out beautiful and sunny! We were able to photograph bridal details, Taylor & Logan’s first look and part 1 of their portraits, and wedding party portraits outside in the bright happy weather….. that was until the very end of wedding party portraits when the clouds rolled in heavy and the rain started slowly but steadily coming down. No problem! We knew rain was in the forecast and the amazing Sara Falder and her crew at Flower + Furbish had already begun preparing to move the outdoor ceremony and reception under a tent – AND IT WAS STUNNING!

My brides & grooms and their families are so awesome – Taylor & Logan and their whole gang just went right with the flow! Even when the wind was roaring (and knocking decorations down) and the rain was nailing the roof of the tents! Only when the tornado warnings started did the party slow down! But not before I convinced (hardly had to try!) Taylor & Logan to DANCE IN THE RAIN for some last minute pictures before we all called it a day and headed inside Taylor’ family home. Y’all! No complaints about this day! See for yourself!

A Home Lifestyle and Posed Newborn Session | Calvert City, Kentucky

A follow up to Baby Teagan’s Birth which was on the blog Wednesday, is her newborn lifestyle portraits! This sweet girl did what every photographer hopes for during a newborn session – awake for lifestyle poses with mom and dad and then fell deep asleep for her alone poses. And her room made for the perfect location – mom Kortney did an amazing job hand-painting the accent wall behind her crib!

A Home Lifestyle Newborn Session | Paducah, Kentucky

It was so hard for me to narrow down which images were to be included in this lifestyle newborn blog because literally every single image in their full gallery is a favorite of mine! Of course, if you look back at Lauren & Levi’s maternity blog, I felt the exact same way… and therefore, I probably overshared on images but I don’t think anyone will mind an oversharing of a beautiful little family and their adorable baby boy – or the few photobombs of their hilarious fur-baby!

A Baptist Health Birth | Paducah, Kentucky

Kortney and I had been texting back and forth the morning and afternoon of Baby Teagan’s birth. It started off slow – a few contractions here and there, nothing regular and she felt like driving into town to do some shopping – and neither one of us though it would happen that day. After getting into town, only 20 minutes later, things had picked up in intensity so Kortney decided to hang out at her sister’s house, where she’d be closer to the hospital but also comfortable. She didn’t even make it inside her sister house – as soon as she arrived at her sisters, she knew it was time to head to the hospital. Her sister Keisha switched seats with Kortney and drove them to the hospital. Kortney phoned Harrison – it was time!

I received the text from Harrison stating that they had arrived at the hospital and were being admitted. I waited to hear how far along she was… 10 minutes after admission, she was checked – 5cm! Time to head to the hospital myself!

When I arrived, the atmosphere wasn’t of a 5-6 cm labor, it was more of 2-3 cm but I knowing that everyone works through labor differently, I started capturing the moments. The love and support from both of Kortney’s sisters and her wonderful husband Harrison was palpable! Both sisters had already given birth and are both nurse practitioners and knew exactly what Kortney would need and when. Harrison gave Kortney her space when he could tell she was focusing and stood by her side, holding her hand and wiping her brow when it was go time.

After 2 hours of laboring unmedicated at the hospital and 20 minutes of pushing, Teagan was here!

A Kentucky Dam Village Wedding | Gilbertsville, Kentucky

Almost a year before Ashley & Gene’s wedding, I shot their friends’ (and my sister-in-law’s sister) Kortney & Harrison’s wedding and were impressed enough to book me for their engagement and wedding too! Word of mouth referrals are what it’s all about! And I was more than honored!!! Ashley use to work for a portrait photographer and knows what’s what!

Ashley & Gene’s wedding was the perfect combination of their two different personalities. She’s girly and sophisticated while he loves all things out-doors and is a real man’s man. They chose the Kentucky Dam Marina for their ceremony and the Convention Center for their reception, which offered both a beautiful outside venue and a place for Ashley to dress up. And it’s across the street from the golf course, which is perfect for a less country feel for portraits! It was win-win for everyone – including me!
