A Project 2 Update

Neil and I have now been living in our house for almost 2 years – 21 months to be exact – and somehow, our house is in worse shape than it was when we first moved in. How is that possible, you ask? Well, when we bought our house, it was what you’d call “move-in-ready” and then we moved in and changed everything! Haha! I laugh to keep from crying 😉

What on earth would possess someone to change everything in a move-in-ready house??? Call me crazy, but I love change! So much, in fact, that we’re gearing up for more projects! Unfortunately, there is not one room in this house that is 100% completed. How awful is that??? That’s why, for now, I’ll just share the floor plan I created of the way the house was when we bought it:

Before we dive into our next project, I wanted to share an updated (ok fine – never before official created but still updated!) list of changes and projects for our home:

Front Porch & Yard –
– Replace front door and paint it apple green
– Add potted plants
– Fix and paint mailbox
– Add flowers around mailbox
– Replace light fixture beside front door
– Repaint the front door Navy
– Paint the shutters white
– Paint the trim, columns, and porch ceiling white
– Add a trellis on the side of the garage/front porch and plant something to climb it
– Add planter boxes under each window
– Shape up bushes and add flowers to fill in in front of house
– Re-mulch and plant flowers around trees
– Replace mailbox
– Mulch and plant flowers around mailbox
– Repave driveway

Garage & Sides of house –
– Build storage area inside garage, above garage door
– Add shelving in garage
– Add work bench in garage
– Add shelving in garage closet
– Replace garage closet door
– Add garage door keypad
– Paint siding white
– Paint garage door white
– Clean out monkey grass
– Clean up stone sidewalk
– Fill in landscaping with flowers
– Repave garage floor and stairs into house

Foyer –
– Paint walls grey
– Replace front door and paint it white
– Move 2nd half of right wall out to create a straight wall
– Repaint ceilings white
– Rip up shag carpet
– Remove electrical outlet in the middle of the floor
– Install new hardwood
– Replace outdated baseboards
– Repaint trim white
– Replace air vents
– Replace light fixture
– Paint wall on the right navy
– Add built-in coat rack on right wall
– Decorate with furniture, etc

Living Room –
– Paint walls grey
– Repaint ceilings white
– Rip up shag carpet
– Install new hardwood
– Replace outdated baseboards
– Repaint trim white
– Replace air vents
– Decorate with furniture
– Add built-in entertainment center on left wall
– Move light switch on back wall
– Decorate
– Replace ceiling fan
– Replace windows

Dining Room –
– Paint walls grey
– Close up wall to coat closet and hall bath room
– Repaint ceilings white
– Rip up shag carpet
– Install new hardwood
– Replace outdated baseboards
– Repaint trim white
– Replace air vents
– Replace chandelier
– Add moulding to doorway from living room/foyer to dining room
– Finish crown moulding
– Refinish fireplace and mantel
– Replace recessed light fixtures
– Replace windows
– Decorate with furniture, etc

Kitchen –
– Paint walls light green
– Repaint ceilings white
– Replace light fixture
– Replace old dishwasher/del>
– Add built-in banquet bench in eat-in area under window
– Decorate with furniture, etc
– Paint cabinets
– Replace cabinet hardware
– Redo backsplash
– Replace outdate baseboards and paint white
– Clean floor tile grout
– Replace refrigerator
– Replace glass electric cooktop with gas cooktop (possibly range?)
– Replace laundry room door
– Replace windows

Laundry Room –
– Paint walls grey
– Replace back door
– Fix storm door
– Rearrange layout of cabinets and washer and dryer
– Paint cabinets white
– Replace outdated baseboards and paint white
– Clean floor tile grout
– Replace washer and dryer with stackable

Hallway –
– Paint walls grey
– Create new coat closet
– Create new hall bathroom
– Repaint ceilings white
– Rip up shag carpet
– Install new hardwood
– Replace outdated baseboards
– Repaint trim white
– Replace air vents
– Replace light fixtures
– Add built-in bookshelf at end of hallway
– Decorate

Hall Bathroom –
– Create new bathroom in hallway
– Finish baseboards
– Add crowning moulding
– Re-calk the tub and shower
– Decorate

Guest Bedroom/Office –
– Paint walls grey
– Install new carpet
– Create new closet on the wall shared with the nursery
– Remove closet
– Remove false wall that was once shared with foyer
– Decorate with furniture, etc.
– Replace windows
– Add built-in bookshelf behind door
– Replace door
– Replace outdated baseboards
– Repaint ceiling and crowning moulding white
– Replace light fixture

Nursery –
– Wall up closet
– Paint walls
– Install new carpet
– Create new closet on the wall shared with the guest bedroom/office
– Decorate with furniture, etc.
– Replace windows
– Replace door
– Replace outdated baseboards
– Repaint ceiling and crowning moulding white
– Move light switch
– Replace light fixture

Master Bedroom –
– Paint walls grey
– Combine the master closet and the nursery closet to make a walk-in closet for the master
– Replace ceiling fan
– Decorate with furniture
– Install new carpet
– Replace outdated baseboards
– Repaint ceiling and crowning moulding white
– Replace windows
– Replace door
– Decorate

Master Bathroom –
– Create new master bathroom
– Replace windows
– Finish baseboards
– Install crown moulding
– Add framing to mirror
– Decorate

Back Deck/Yard –
– Fence in backyard
– Build a fire pit
– Finish the fire pit area
– Redo stairs to wrap around the deck
– Re-stain the deck
– Finish out landscaping again the back of the house with flowers
– Decorate with furniture, etc

Oh, did I forget to mention how looooong the list is? Sorry :/ but now, seeing it all written out like this, makes me think we should have just built a house? Or at least bought a fixer-upper :/ Keep your eyes open for my next house project blog post!
