When a birth doesn’t go as planned, moms and those involved can feel quite defeated. So many months of planning and preparation for what seems like nothing. And then Baby is here and all those bitter and sad feelings disappear because no matter how they arrived, a child is a blessing and their birth is never anything less than a miracle.

Also part of that plan was for me to photograph Baby Ariadne’s birth but when things started to veer off course mom-to-be Emily, feeling crushed, decided she’d rather not have a lasting reminder of how things should not have been. For health reasons (mom’s not baby’s), a c-section was necessary so I wouldn’t have been allowed to document the actual birth anyway. Emily & Shaun opted for a fresh baby and newborn session instead and I was more than happy to provide them with both – especially since babies change SO QUICKLY and I knew Emily would want tangible keepsakes of her day old baby girl before she morphed into a week old baby girl.
