A Fall Barn Paducah Kentucky Wedding
He sat the ring box on the counter right by her and said, “You want it or not?”
At first glance, their proposal story isn’t awfully romantic but if you’d spent any time with Katy & Bret, you’d know how much Bret simply adores Katy! In fact, Katy told me during their engagement session a couple months back that she knows Bret went for a casual proposal because otherwise, he’d end up spoiling the surprise and get his words jumbled out of pure nerves. Even after all they’d been though together – having the sweetest little baby boy would be just one to name – he was still nervous to ask for her hand in marriage! Not that he ever doubted her love for him but Bret understood the magnitude of his question and the weight of her answer. All nerves melted away, however, once Katy said Yes.
But Bret’s nerves resurfaced once more on his & Katy’s wedding day – but then it was all excitement and awe. Katy & Bret wanted to see each other before the busyness of the day began. I was a firm believer that if a groom is going to cry, it will be during the first look because he’ll allow himself to feel all the emotions that come when he first sees his bride instead of holding it all in in the presence of their guests. But Bret proved me wrong that afternoon – he didn’t cry during their first look but let it all go as she walked down the aisle towards him and their future. He let himself feel the magnitude of that moment and as he held Katy tight during their first kiss as husband and wife, I know Katy found the simple romance in him once again.
