A Classic Early Spring St Francis de Sales Catholic Church Wedding in Paducah, Kentucky
We woke up that early April morning to snow covering most of the grass and trees. While I enjoy snow portraits, I knew one of the reasons Sarah wanted an April wedding was to capture all those spring colors. I don’t blame her – it’s why I love shooting in the spring too! The white from the snow was not one of those spring colors and we needed her white ballgown to stand out from backgrounds of pinks and greens, not blend in. When I arrived at their hotel suite to start photographing the ladies getting ready and bridal details, I was pleased and relieved that Sarah wasn’t bothered at all by the snow on the ground or the cooler than anticipated temperatures! I felt encouraged and knew that no matter what the weather was doing that day, it was all ok as long as in the end, Sarah & Martin were happily married!
We all got our wish, though – when we emerged from then hotel to head to the church for the first look, family portraits, and ceremony, the snow had melted! And when we left the church for bridal party portraits and bride & groom portraits, the temp had raised and while it was still chilly, it wasn’t anything we could handle for a short time.
Purposefully, we spent extra time during their engagement session and less time during bride & groom portraits on the wedding day so that Sarah & Martin could get to their reception not long after the guests arrived. Not my first choice but I’ll do whatever my couples want to do – it’s their wedding day! And thankfully, it was all pinks and greens during their bride & groom portrait time so everyone got their way!
