A Henderson Resort Destination Wedding in Destin Florida
What a way to kick off my 2020 (summer) wedding season?!? Shelby & Nic brought us down to Destin Florida, one of my all time favorite places to vacation, for their wedding but it almost didn’t happen! And I know you likely know why!!!
COVID19 has been wrecking havoc now for almost 3 months here in the US. I was luck to not have any March or April weddings but all five of my May weddings were in danger and in the end, the first 4 weddings had to be rescheduled. Shelby & Nic were worried and we were all keeping a close eye on how everything was unfolding – you can imagine how thankful they (and I!) were when they learned one month before their wedding that they would in fact be able to have their wedding as planned and scheduled. I know I personally was jumping for joy on the other side of the phone when Shelby told me! I needed some normal in my life and Shelby & Nic wanted nothing more than to be married and start the next chapter in their lives together. To hear that they didn’t have to postpone, they could use their original venue and location, AND they didn’t have to pare down their guest count (Florida has different rules right now than Kentucky)…. well, it literally MADE everyone’s day!
In Thursday, two days before the wedding, it was calling for rain most of the day which wouldn’t have been the worst thing but it would have potentially made the lawn, where the ceremony was to take place, soggy. Friday morning came and the rain had shifted… to Saturday morning. Still not good – but imagine our surprise Saturday morning when the forecast had changed to literally zero percent chance of rain for the entire day! I think I said it more that wedding day than any other wedding day – God was truly blessing this day!
A few things that happened on Shelby & Nic’s day that I’ll likely remember forever: A few of my clients were in their wedding party and it was such a sweet reunion plus it helped us while working with the bridal party! The bride’s father could barely keep it together during their first look and he felt and acted the same during their dance and it was the sweetest thing! Now that Neil and I have a daughter ourselves, those daddy daughter moments really get to me! It was just as hot as you’d imagine it would be at the very end of May in Florida – Nic was so warm. We all were but no matter how hot it got and how much we sweat, he was so excited to be photographing romantic cuddly portraits with his bride. And finally, right before they bridal party entered into the reception, I realized that with the dance floor where it was. It was a problem because we would totally miss all of the epic sunset, skyline, and beach in our background images that we all desired for the dancing images. I made a last minute snap decisive to move the sweetheart table to the side just for dancing and Lordy, that one small adjustment made all the difference! And you’ll be able to see that in the images below!
