An Intimate Family St. Thomas More Wedding in Paducah Kentucky

We’ve heard it’s good luck – rain on the wedding day – but as the bride, groom, family, and friends, no one wants it to actually happen. But when we’re able to work completely around the rain or shoot inside for what we can when we have to we barely notice the rain that sent us inside in the first place. And when we spend the several moments directly after being pronounced as husband and wife running from the church to your car and speeding to a location around the corner, we race against the tiniest sliver of sun that tried its hardest not to show all day and those glowy bride & groom portraits that we always hope to get. It end the day knowing it was more than worth it!

I don’t doubt in the least that Alex & Zach would have preferred to not have their wedding any other way than what they originally planned for, when they were planning their wedding pre COVID. I understand that of every one of my bride & grooms who had their original wedding dates since March. But every one of my couples have taken these necessary changes in stride and I commend them.

Alex & Zach were one of those couples that chose to keep their original wedding date but change their plans to fit the time – decreasing their wedding guest count greatly, from 450 to 75, and changing their reception venue. It should have been the first wedding ever to take place at the brand new Commonwealth Event Center in Paducah but they are choosing to use that venue as their large wedding gathering next summer when they hope everyone will be able to join them.

But this wedding day was not secondary. Alex told me two weeks into the pandemic that she and Zach plan to be married on August 1st, regardless of how many people could join them. She told me, “Even if it’s just me (Alex), Zach, the officiant, and you (me), we will get married. We don’t want to wait any longer.” I loved many things about their day, but that simple fact may be my favorite!
