The Nursery: Before & During

December 11, 2014

When’s the last time I blogged about our home projects? I can’t even remember, it’s been so long! BUT since we’re getting closer and closer to our little man’s arrival (only 115 more days! eek!) we’ve been hard at work on our current and most dire home project – the nursery and the guest bedroom – and I’ve been taking plenty of iPhone pics to share with you all!

I present to you the Nursery: “before” and “during”!

When we moved into the house in August of 2012 this room which we quickly decided would be, and have ever since been calling, the nursery look like this:

First off, we extended the master bedroom closet into the nursery closet and closed off that wall (left) and put in a new door (right):

Then we removed the baseboards… Neil removed the baseboards, I cleaned up after him 😉

We knew all along we’d have to build in a closet for the nursery SOMEWHERE and the wall on the right (when you walk into the nursery), close to the window seemed like the best AKA ONLY place it could go. We measured the dimensions for the bi fold door and started cutting the opening! Neil moved an electrical outlet and cut into the guest bedroom, which was on the other side of that wall. We created a whole other wall in the guest bedroom, just for the closets (more on that later)…

Draw wall went up and then puttying and sanding began!

After the closet was painted and shelving designed and put up, we moved on the priming the walls of the nursery.

Ta da! Brand new closet with shelving! I was excited when that much got accomplished…. little man’s things were slowly taking over our master closet! I went back and forth between creating a closet system PERFECT for a nursery but then remembered, he’ll soon grow to be a toddler and then a child – and I also thought of resell. So simple normal system it was! I still think it’ll work great for a nursery!

We painted the walls Tinsmith Grey, to match the rest of the house, and the accent wall where the crib will go a beautiful Navy. I’m in love with the colors I’ve chosen!

Still left to do in the nursery:
+ put up trim for the closet door
+ lay new baseboards
+ paint new door and door trim, closet door trim, and new baseboards
+ lay new carpet
+ add furniture
+ and accessorize!

We’ve also been finishing up a hallway project, a kitchen area project, AND working on the guest bedroom. Think we can do it all before Baby Houser arrives? I sure hope so!

The nursery was my favorite thing to work on while pregnant. 🙂

You really weren’t kidding about those home projects! Whew lord, I wish Nate and I possessed the skills to move walls around and create new closets, haha. We are helpless and we have short fuses. We would KILL each other trying to do that, lol. It looks fantastic!!
